The Adventures of Sara

EDUCATION
Long story short- I was an idiot in grade twelve. I got good grades all through high school, and just tanked everything my last year, which meant all of my conditional offers to university, were void. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life, so I took a year and a half off after high school to figure it out. And I'm really glad I did. I definitely wasn't mature enough to go to college straight out of high school, and I would not have done well. I decided to pursue a degree in business. This meant either going back to high school to improve my grades, or completing a bridge program at a college. I chose St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario because the credits from my diploma transferred to many different universities- giving me lots of options at the end of my three year program. In addition there was an opportunity to complete an internship during the program, which I thought would look great on a CV.

As a post-secondary student in Canada, studying abroad seemed like a far fetched dream. An idea that I had toyed with, but didn’t think was a viable option. I remember very specifically when I realized it might be a realistic option for me. KOM Consultants came to visit St. Clair, and was explaining the cost difference between completing a degree at UWindsor, and completing it in Ireland. It actually worked out to be less expensive to go to Ireland, than to stay in Windsor, and complete my degree. In addition to that, I am a UK citizen, and currently hold and EU passport- which made me eligible for domestic fees instead of international- making the decision to study in Ireland a no brainer!

I applied to IT Sligo through KOM Consultants (as it was free, so I had nothing to lose), and got accepted. I was really hesitant to go, but I didn't have a valid reason not to, other than the fact that it was scary. So I decided to go, and live by that very cliche, but very true quote "life begins at the edge of your comfort zone."

I spent this past summer working, and saving as much as I could, so I could take full advantage of being in Europe and do some travelling. I am attending IT Sligo in September full time for my Honours Bachelor Degree in Business, so school might get in the way of travelling a little bit, but my plan is to advantage of breaks, and weekends to travel as much as possible while maintaining a high GPA.
